Expert State & IRS Collections Help

When it comes to tax problems, the IRS & State tax authorities have four main administrative divisions: the Audit Division, the Collection Division, the Settlement Division, and Appeals. The Audit Division’s primary purpose is to find additional taxable income. The Collection Division’s primary purpose is to collect money owed, either from an audit, unfiled returns, or from returns filed by you. Revenue Officers work for the Collection Division. With their main purpose being to collect money, they are not necessarily interested in exploring your options for resolution, like doing an Offer in Compromise. In fact, a Revenue Officer has no authority to approve an Offer in Compromise, as that is handled by the Offer Group within the Settlement Division of the IRS, which is an entirely different branch of the IRS. If you’ve been contacted or received a notice from a Revenue Officer (RO), the situation is serious. Without intervention from an Enrolled Agent, attorney, or CPA, handling these matters on your own could be very hazardous. The Appeals Division is an independent department of the IRS that will take another look at your case after being handled by the Audit or Collection Division. We have taken hundreds of cases to Appeals for a better result.

Lothamer Tax Resolution has over 40 years of experience helping clients deal with the frightening power and authority of ROs. If you’re being audited or you know you have unfiled tax returns and want to get ahead of the problem before an RO gets involved, don’t hesitate to call. Our professionals know how exactly to deal with ROs so you can get back to life and business as usual.

Before you speak to or meet with a Revenue Officer, contact Lothamer Tax Resolution for expert advice and guidance.

How We Can Help You Deal with IRS Collections

Revenue Officers have far greater power than auditors. They are granted the authority to seize assets, levy your income, take your bank accounts, and even carry weapons. Having an RO assigned to your case is a serious matter. But hiring a licensed tax resolution professional to represent you shows the RO that you are equipped to take advantage of the various programs.

ROs will generally avoid discussing the various programs available for tax debt resolution and focus on just collecting money. “How much can I collect today?” is their mantra. Lothamer will demand the RO consider all the options available for tax resolution, and if the RO doesn’t want to entertain those options, you have a right to file an Appeal, where all the options will be explored. We can file all the necessary paperwork, explore all the options, and get the best resolution for you, all without you ever having to talk to the IRS.

IRS Collections Success Stories

I contacted Lothamer Tax Resolution in August 2020 with regards to an outstanding tax liability issue related to 2013 income tax return. Andrew Campbell handled my case and I found him to be very thorough. Lothamer kept me informed monthly with regards to the status of my case. After a period of 6 months, I was notified that the IRS had agreed to eradicate the tax liability , and I was quite relieved to have this significant tax burden finally lifted. Undoubtedly, I am extremely pleased with the representation that I received from Lothamer Tax Resolution with regards to this matter.
